Yakima Valley's Pelicans

I can't believe I forgot to show you Yakima Valley's White Pelicans on this blog. They make the Yakima River their home from about march to September or October.

inland gulls

You would not expect to see seagulls in an inland valley, but we have them all the time.

Yakima Valley's Pelicans

I had a lucky day driving on I-82 along the Yakima River one day last week. My timing was just right to catch a good shot of some of the American White Pelicans who make the river their home from about Mrch through October each year. When I was commuting early in the morning daily, I rarely saw them, as they are usually in flight later in the morning.

In commenting on the post from a week ago Monday, Novel asked if we would see this one open later, too. Well, it is later, and here you go, Novel.

And so my friend saw me pull out my camera...

...and hunch down at the blank side of the cinderblock building.

"You see things. I don't." she stated.

Does that camera in you pocket (Mine doesn't fit in the pocket any more.) make you observe differently? see more?

eating well

We always eat well when we cook over the campfire. We are away from the Valley cmaping this weekend. This is from the same weekend last year.

Rimrock

Rimriock Lake is the first point you reach going west out of Yakima on White Pass. It was incredibly mirror-like at the east end of the lake when we passed on Friday. Farther west the water was rippled.

Canyon Shadow

Shadows were falling across the Yakima Canyon the last time we drove through. This photo can be clicked to enlarge for better viewing. It's Theme Day once again for the Daily Photo crowd, and the theme this month is "shadows".
