All a book club needs...

...books and coffee!

We had a lively discussion of The Shack by William Young. Next month is Five Quarters of the Orange by Joanne Harris? Have you read either of these?

Is the book club there yet?

My book club meets once a month at Inklings on West Summitview. And no, no one was there yet, even though it was time. Can you guess from the photo where I found them?

Depth of field

How big do you tink this building is?

For a hint--do you see the red circle near the left edge of the picture? (Yes, it is a circle--I drew it.) That circle was drawn around the front end of one semi trailer. I've never been able to count how many bays there are on this side of the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Grandview. It takes too long as you are driving by. The building covers 18 acres and is the distribution point for food products to Walmart stores in the region. Most of the 18 acres is refrigerated.

From the benches 5

More toward the west--Yakima and the Cascades in the distance.

From the benches 4

Toward the east, walkers on the Greenway along the Yakima River.

From the benches 3

To the west you can see the mountains over the rise.

From the benches 1

There were two of those two way benches at Sarge Hubbard Park, and I checked the views from both of them. This on looks out South at Ahtanum Ridge.

Can you count?

How many birds are in and around this tree enjoying (or not) the threat of rain from these skies? (You can click to enlarge for easier counting--or just to get a better view.)

Party like a princess!

When we visited Out on a Whim they had the party room ready for a princess party. Children's parties are part of the business.

Try your wings!

This is part of why it's also the Imagination Station. Which wings would you choose? butterfly wings? ladybug wings? fairy wings?

And what adventuredwould your wings lead you to?

I can so imagine some of my favorite six and seven year olds in Out on a Whim.

Out on a Whim

I'll come back to the views from the bench later this week. First I want to show you where we went after our inside the car out of the freezing wind picnic. Now what can be a better greeter than this friendly tree at Out on a Whim Children's Bookstore and Imagination Station? Imagination? Definitely! What a fun place to shop for your favorite little person. Well, actually, I picked up some poetry magnets for this big person. More shots tomorrow.

What did I see when I sat down on the bench?

Photographers!
When I posted this bench at Sarge Hubbard Park a couple of weeks ago, cieldequimper commented: What a lovely bench for a nice conversation! What's the view like from the seat facing us?

So we finally went back to Sarge Hubbard Park Saturday to check. It was plan B which had quickly turned into plan C and then D, as an icy wind persuaded us to eat our picnic lunch in the car and skip the walk on the Greenway. (We had already abandoned the plan to go snowshoeing.) Before we left, though, I checked out the bench, and found that there were actually two of them--maybe more. So I will post some views from both of them later this week.

Straight down the road toward Ahtanum Ridge again

I thought we had stopped at the same spot where I had taken this photo , but we were just a little farther south, avoiding the bit of hill and past the two large trees from the previous shot. I think it does show what a difference tow months make in the scenery.

Another interesting Sunnyside sculpture

...celebrating the dairy industry in the Valley. That is my assumption, as there is no plaque offering an explanation.

Other heritage scupltures in Sunnyside were featured in some of my first YVDP posts here and here.
